About Tim Paulino

My name is Tim Paulino and I’m an Internet entrepreneur, online marketing strategist and affiliate marketer. I specialize in marketing telecommunications services that target very specific niches and demographics. I’ve been involved in internet marketing for over 10 years and full-time for the past 5 years. I’ve learned through much trial and error how to succeed online. After learning how to make real money online and reading how others have done the same, I’ve decided to take my knowledge and experiences to teach others how to grow their own online business.

My Early Entrepreneur Spirit

I’ve always had ambitions to be an entrepreneur. Like many, I started very young with various paper routes where I learned responsibility and how to save my money. When I reached middle school I started selling candy to all the neighborhood kids and eventually at school. It taught me how to invest my profits and scale my business as well as protecting inventory since I had an older brother who like to skim a candy bar or two when he was hungry.

After nearly putting our local ice cream man out of business, I eventually grew out of the candy business and started with baseball cards. This was actually more of a hobby than business, but nevertheless I learned how to negotiate trades with other collectors and how to recognize the opportunity of when to buy low and sell high.

Once I started becoming more independent I got involved in various multi-level marketing opportunities that basically drained all my money. I learned a lot and got an early lesson in networking, but for the most part was sold a lot of useless products I never used and never made more than a few dollars for all my efforts. Major fail.

My Early Days on the Internet

I never had a computer until midway through college. My first computer was an IBM 386 with something like a 80 meg hard drive. And no that’s not a typo, eighty mega bytes. After a while, I tried to free some space on the hard drive by manually deleting Windows system files (not smart). Needless to say I bought a new HP with a blazing 28.8 modem. Connected to a free trial of AOL and that was it, I was hooked. I spent all my free time online where I learned to build and publish web pages. I immediately took my new found skills to my MLM up lines and sold them all one page web sites and got all my MLM money back!

As I worked to enhance my web design skills I decided to get a job at a local high tech firm building computers and web sites. Things were going great during the tech boom. Aside from work, I started my own web design and hosting business where I consulted, designed and maintained websites for a handful of clients. I got married, bought a car and a house and was on top of the world. Then the tech bubble burst. Now instead of pay raises, I was being promised stock options. Eventually that lead to company downsizing and me out of work. I was now forced to take my side business more seriously and focus on building a recurring revenue stream in order to pay the bills. Boy was that a wakeup call.

Needing money, I started researching different credit cards in an attempt to find the cards with the lowest interest rates. Unhappy with anything online I turned to our local paper that would print a list of credit cards with the lowest rates every week. So I built a small website that took this exact same information and published it online in an effort to help others. In no time, I was receiving emails from people asking me how they could apply for these cards. So I signed up for a few credit card affiliate programs and posted the affiliate links to apply directly from my website. Almost immediately I started earning a couple hundred dollars a month. With a little more focus and marketing, the couple hundred turned into a couple thousand per month. Things were great again.

Feeling the Pain

Everything changed after September 11. The banks started cracking down on credit applications and my main affiliate income stream dried up. Tired of living in the turbulence, I decided to reel things in and look for something “safe”. I landed a county job as a web programmer. Safe right?

As the country headed into recession, state and county budgets dried up. I remember being pulled aside and told that my job was in jeopardy because I was the last hire and last ones in are typically the first to go if layoffs were necessary. I was in complete shock as I realized my safety net was nothing more than an illusion. I remember that helpless feeling in my gut to this day. On the drive way home that day I made the decision to never allow myself to be in this position again.

So I kept a low profile and quietly worked on building my business. I stumbled upon a telecommunications service that served a niche that I knew very well. I started testing, making changes and investing my commissions back into marketing. Within 2 years I built a recurring income that far surpassed my salary at the county. So I quit my job and have been happily working for myself ever since.

I now have 2 year old twins and another on the way. I enjoy playing basketball, being outdoors, watching movies and spending time with my wife and children.

My life isn’t any easier in terms of time, work load or responsibility, it’s just much better. I’m in control of my life and decide which path I want to take. I work from my home office so there’s no commute, I’m happier, healthier and most importantly more available to my wife and children. And from all that I know, that’s what really matters most.

Hi Tim, I am in need of help and you are the first person I thought of asking. I am in need of finding a company or something to help me create a web site for my daughters dance company. I am great at email, facebook, and searching the web but have no idea how to create a web site. I want nothing fancy but would like to be able to update it on my own. My question to you is (if you know) who or where should I start. I do not want to pay money and then get screwed by not getting what I want or it taking too long. We are a small dance company but are aware that we might need to pay some money, could you possibly lead me in the right direction. Thanks so much for getting back to me,
Stephanie Weihe Nuner
PS. Congrats on the new baby on the way.

Hi Stephanie, good to hear from you. You’re situation is not uncommon. Your best option is to create a blog at WordPress.com, http://wordpress.com. It’s all web-based so you can do it yourself. Don’t need to know anything about web design, so don’t worry. Takes just a few minutes to get signed up, create a few settings (like the name of the site, description, etc.) and to choose a template style for the design. You’ll be in complete control and able to update or edit the content anytime and from pretty much anywhere. Best of all, it’s completely free. Hope this helps.

P.S. – We had a our baby April 14th. Healthy baby girl.

You can also create a free blog in Blogger, owned by Google. Blogger is better because you can monetize your contents using Google’s AdSense. I think WordPress does not allow monetization.

True, but I don’t think the purpose of the site is to monetize the traffic it gets. Any monetization would likely be in the form of generating direct leads. Adsense runs risk of possibly promoting competition.
